Music Production/ Mixing/ Mastering/ Session Musician

Hello, I’m a music producer, recording engineer & session musician based in the UK. I have many years of experience, working alongside many inspirational artists, to name a few: -The Charlatans. Tori Amos, Johnny Marr, Denise Johnson, Primal Scream, Tears for Fears, Neill Finn, John Paul Jones and Patti Smith.

I have a very keen ear for music and I’m good at sourcing new talent with amazing potential and in helping them achieve their goals. My real focus and passion is  in music production. I have a wealth of experience as a musician, engineer and re-mixer too. Many Artist’s say that i display very good interpersonal and leadership skills in the studio which they enjoy and helps them achieve great results. I have a genuine love of the whole recording process and in helping artists realise they’re true potential.

I have had success in the UK national charts and in many UK and US alternative charts also. I have achieved platinum sales in the UK and was awarded a BPI Platinum disk in 2001. I work at many great studios across the UK for ‘tracking’ purposes and have my own mixing facility based in Manchester, UK which is solely designed as a finishing studio- ideal for recording vocals, overdubs, mixing and mastering.

I started out as a writer and producer with the band ‘The Joy’,  my first venture “Shine” was a 27 minute epic, which met with exceptional reviews, critical acclaim and widespread international press coverage from the Times, The Daily Mirror, The NME etc.The Joy were signed by Chris Briggs (Compulsion/EMI) and Brian Sheppard (Manager). “Shine” was the most played track on Anne Nightingale’s Radio 1 show that year and the track received many No.1 independent chart positions in the UK and US.

After signing to EMI, I started working with many other artists: Tori Amos, Denise Johnson, Tears for fears and many artists on the WEA and Ministry of Sound label. I scored a hit twice with “Rays of the Rising Sun” a track penned and produced with Denise Johnson, an incredible artist who gave such epic and euphoric vocals to Screamadelica – Primal Scream’s most seminal album to date. I also remixed “Rays” several times and had a platinum selling hit on the Ministry of sound label. After leaving ‘The Joy’ in 97, I shadowed some real world-class producers and then started honing my own recording and production skills.

Throughout the years I have participated heavily in developing many Manchester artists who have now achieved success. I am also a session drummer and percussionist (Charlatans, Primal Scream, and Johnny Marr) and in 2005 joined Johnny Marr’s band  “The Healers”, playing many sell out shows In the UK. This culminated at the Royal Festival Hall , headlining with Johnny and also performing with rock luminaries such as Patti Smith, Neill Finn, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and Roy Harper.

I also currently hold a teaching post at the University of Salford, lecturing in Audio Production. My extensive background and knowledge in the music business brings up to date production methods and a sense of the ‘real world’ to the Professional Sound and Video Technology course at Salford University. I have over 12 years experience in the teaching sector, taking a key role in designing, structuring and developing courses as well as writing and developing all course literature.

I have a wealth of experience, a life long love of music and have carved my own niche and sound in music production.
